The beginnings of the current Masia Can Cortada date back to the 11th century, when the lords of Horta built a defence tower in anticipation of possible feudal attacks.
During the 15th century the tower was transformed into a farmhouse and in 1711 the property was acquired by General Joan Cortada, who gave his name to the current farmhouse.
For more than 350 years, Can Cortada has had a strong agricultural tradition, with a large area of land, until the growth of Horta and the opening of the great roads of metropolitan Barcelona have gradually encompassed the primitive rural organisation within the urban structure of the city.
As a restaurant, Can Cortada is now 20 years old.
